Invited NYC: Alexia Marza Doyle
“ After a conversation with Long Island-based costume designer, writer and producer Alexandra Engelson, whose work could be seen premiering at Tribeca film festival this year, I received fascinating insight into how a career can be forged in the mysterious and elusive world of entertainment, and how one can use their success and creativity to uplift others breaking into the industry.”

“I immediately noticed the masks. The teenage daughter wore a bright, floral mask. Her father has on a dark fabric. This was all on purpose. Engelson explained she spoke with the screenwriter and learned it is common for immigrants would sew their own things from old fabrics to save money. So she went in search of Turkish-owned shops around NYC and found handmade masks.”

“As a costume designer, Engelson is able to bring her writing hat into that because she believes in telling stories through her costumes, especially as it comes to the psychology of the costumes and what that can say about a person.”
